Funny numbers

Read the post below first then come back to this.

1.3 BILLION cows on the Earth right now. Each one producing 1/2 pounds of Methane each day. Methane make p 13% of the greenhouse gases that supposedly cause the Earth to warm up. Methane stays in the atmosphere for 10 years, AND it 20 times the amount of heat that an equal amount of carbon dioxide. THOSE are some scary numbers. Also remember that methane is like crack to Love Bugs, so if we get ride of it we will take a step to reducing Love Bugs. I ate a nice Cajun Burger for lunch today, it is my little step to reducing the number of methane producing animals on this earth. Join me wont you please?

OOPS, I had a Boca fake burger at lunch, but after having a steak sandwich Saturday for lunch, then a big ribeye Saturday night, then Krystal cheeseburgers on the way home, I think I am helping delete the methane gas too.

How about a cow mounted methane collection system. You could make a fortune by calling it green gas. Cows produce it, we collect it, you burn it. We could use the flammable methane to power electic generators!

There is no net gain or loss in carbon from cows, it's the carbon that is locked away from the dinosaur age that is the problem. The more we put that into the atmosphere the more problems we have.

An interesting article from the NY Times today talks about the U.S. vs. Europe in "green" building practices. Speaks to just the thing my company is currently educating its members about: How building "green" adds to the bottom line. Revolutionary stuff in the U.S., but 20 years behind Europe and Asia.

It's the buildings we work in rather than those we live in that are the bigger trouble.
